May is National Fitness and Sports Month, making it the perfect time to recommit to fitness. The theme for this year's Strong B.A.N.D.S. program is "Let's Get Physical," and Fort Lee has a roster of events to inspire our entire community to pursue fitness and health.

Zumba is a high-energy dance fitness workout that typically burns around 350 - 650 calories while providing cardiovascular, core strengthening, and flexibility benefits. It’s a full-body workout combined with the rhythms of salsa, merengue, cumbia, and samba. Join the Zumba class at MacLaughlin Fitness Center every Wednesday, at 6:00 p.m.
Picnic & Obstacle Course
The Fort Lee Community Library partners with Child Youth Services to bring families together for fun and exercise at a picnic-style story time at the School Age Gym, followed (if weather permits) by an obstacle course. Make plans to attend the Picnic & Obstacle Course at School Age Gym on Wednesday, May 13, 10:00 a.m. - 12 Noon.
Kayaking is an excellent, low-impact, full-body workout that strengthens the core, back, shoulders, and arms while providing cardiovascular benefits. Join Outdoor Recreation for a Kayaking trip on the historic Appomattox on Thursday, May 14, at 5:30 p.m.
What better way to put some fun into fitness than a fun run? With an emphasis on enjoyment, these runs play a crucial role in the pursuit of fitness by serving as a low-pressure, accessible gateway to physical activity emphasizing community over competition. Register now to participate in the Hot Dog Fun Run on Saturday, May 16, at 8:00 a.m.
Requiring a mix of high-intensity interval training, explosive leg strength, and agility, paintball is an great addition to a fitness routine. Join Outdoor Recreation for Open Play Paintball on Saturday, May 16, 11:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.
Considered a casual backyard game, cornhole can actually improve coordination, engage core muscles, and provide light cardio, making it a low-impact workout suitable for all fitness levels. Make plans to join the Cornhole Tournament at Outdoor Recreation on Friday, May 29, 6:00 - 8:00 p.m.
The Fort Lee Hero Workout is an inspirational challenge: run one mile, 100 pull-ups, 200 push-ups, 300 squats, and finish with a one-mile run.
Those interested in participating will meet at Williams Stadium on Saturday, May 30, 9:30 a.m - 12 Noon. No registration required.
Miles in May
The Miles in May challenge promotes fitness by encouraging participants to log in miles over the course of this 31-day initiative. Put 50 miles on a treadmill or elliptical, or 100 miles on a stationary bike in our fitness centers.
